STEP BY STEP GUIDE 

Register

• We ask that you register so that we can ensure ratings data is valid, and so we can remember your preferences for later.
• Create a user name. This is how you will be known to others on the site, so you can make this as anonymous or as personal as you choose.
• Enter the fields for Gender, Birth Year, Zip code. While these are optional, they will improve the accuracy of recommendations.
• Choose whether or not to be included in our periodic emails. We plan to send personalized recommendations via email. You can unsubscribe at any time in the future.
• Let us know if someone referred you to the site. If you clicked through directly from an email from a friend, you can skip this field. We’ve automatically credited them for the referral.
• We will never share your personal information. In fact, we don't even collect it (besides your email). Click here to read our privacy policy. 

Rate Products

Now, rate books, music and movies. The more products you rate, the more accurate the recommendations. Also, you need to rate at least 20 products to complete the registration (and get referral credits).

• First, you find products that you’ve read/heard/seen. We make this as easy as possible by letting you select from:
  • Title, Album, Artist, Author, Actor or Director search
  • A list of popular products
  • Recommendations. Chances are, you already own some of the recommended products. Just add them to your Notebook and we won't recommend them any more. Keep in mind, your recommendations will get better as you rate more products.
• Add products to your Notebook.  This is your own personal list of your likes and dislikes.

• From your Notebook, you can:

  • Rate the product on a 1 (terrible) to 5 (excellent) scale.
  • Add a product to your Wishlist to buy it later.
  • Add a product to your Top 10 list. The Top 10 list includes your absolute favorites and can be browsed by other users.
  • Delete a product from the list.
• Some thoughts on ratings:
  • Rate what you like now in order to get accurate predictions of what you'll like next. For instance, if Led Zeppelin IV never left the 8-track deck in your car for all of 1975, but you can't stand it now, it should probably be rated a 2-3 rather than a 5.
  • Rate what you liked or disliked, not what you think might be good or bad. 
  • It's hard to remember everything you've read, seen or heard. Try to think of genres, artists, authors or actors to help you find products to add to your Notebook.

Once you’re done rating products, you can move on to rate the next product category, or go to Recommendations.

Get Recommendations

Based on the products that you have rated, NextFavorite predicts your next favorites. In the Recommendations page, you can:

• Click on the product name to get more details or to buy it.
• Park it in your Wishlist for later.
• Remove it from your Recommended list by clicking on "Ignore."
• Rate it, if you've already seen, heard or read it.

The Recommendations list with update instantly based on your feedback. The more products you rate, the more accurate the results.

Wishlist

Your Wishlist becomes your home at NextFavorite once you’ve registered. From this page, you can

• View the balance of your referral credits
• Redeem credits
• Update your Wishlist
• Check prices on the products you’ve added
• Buy products from Amazon by clicking on Checkout
• Save products for later by selecting Quantity = 0 before checking out
• Rent movies on your Wishlist from NetFlix
• Download music in your Wishlist from iTunes
• Go back to rate more products
• Get more recommendations

Find People

Here's where you can find what other people are raving about. It's one thing to be rated 5 stars, but only 10 can make a Top 10 list (really, we've tested this). Go to the Connections section, and select Find People in the menu bar. Just type the user name for one of your friends to see their favorites and get some ideas on what you might like as well.

Coming soon - Product recommendations for others. Trying to find that perfect gift for a friend or relative? You'll be able to just enter their user name and get a prediction of what books, CDs and movies they'll like next.  

Refer Friends

Tell your friends by clicking on Connections and Refer a Friend. Emails have been pre-formatted to make this as easy as possible. All you have to do is enter the first name and email addresses for a list of recipients. You can edit the email template to personalize the message too. Your friends will receive the email with a link that activates your referral credits if they join.

Redeem Credits

OK Mr. (or Ms.) popularity. You got your friends to join. They even told some friends too. Check your Dashboard for your current number of credits. If you've reached 50 or more, click "Redeem", or go to Connections and Redeem Credits. Select the desired amount, hit Submit and we'll send you a gift certificate in the requested amount.
